February 24, 2017 – What can fly like a drone while you ride it like a motorbike? It’s the Scorpion-3, a combination quadcopter with a motorcycle seat.
Scorpion-3 is electric-powered, a prototype product developed by Hoversurf, with offices in Moscow and San Francisco.
Scorpion-3 started as a crowdfunding project. And now the prototype is ready to fly on automatic or under manual control.
Custom software provides state-of-the-art flight controls that include limiting both speed and altitude.
Will Scorpion-3 soon be commercially available. Possibly not since Hoversurf has a Scorpion-4 concept already on the drawing boards.
Hoversurf’s dream is to create a new extreme sporting event with its Scorpion drone-bike. As a writer for the Verge states, “don’t expect a motorcycle’s license or even a pilot’s license to authorize you to ride one of these things. The only thing that would…is a willingness to have your legs amputated in the name of extreme sports.”
Jetpacks, flying cars and copter drones that carry passengers, all seem to be in vogue these days. And don’t be surprised if military funds are being used to provide seed money for these inventions.
